The swimmer

There's a reason why any form of water is in some ways soothing, the open sea view, the water stream, sound of rain... and in the case even water created from strokes of paint.
The series "Swimming Portraits" by Ontario-based artist Heather Horton is filled with calming color palettes, so rich in texture that you want to dip your toes in, or just dive in.

The Lady in colorful Dior

I remember when we first saw Marion Cotillard in the Lady Dior Saga Campaign, one of my favorite series of Dior photographs. Their endless story continues today with this fresh and bright campaign, photographed by none other than Tim Walker, the perfect choice in my opinion for this pop and acid bright new look. The Oscar winning actress is the embodiment of high-color in bright red lips and Azure blue dress, echoing the iconic bag from the house at 30 Avenue Montaigne whose resort 2014 collection is about a spectrum of strong color.

Duality

Artist Tom French creates a more than meets the eye artwork called Duality. From a distance the black oil paintings are nothing more but fragmented faces. However look closely... Do you see it?

The paintings are filled with much more depth than first perceived. French uses layers of a monochromatic palette to form lighter and darker shades for the hidden portraits in the faces conveying a dark blur of emotions.

Forever Bicycles

A couple of nights ago, Chinese artist Ai Weiwei stunned the people of Toronto with this magnificent installation Forever Bicycles. 3,144 bicycles were stacked 100 feet in length and 30 feet in height and depth in Toronto's Nathan Phillips Square, lit up with pink and blue lights.

This work is definitely the highlight of the all-night contemporary art event Scotiabank Nuit Blanche.

Ai Weiwei's previous bicycle installation was displayed at the Taipei Fine Arts Murseum in an indoor space, and consisted of 1000 bicycles. Here's a photograph of the installation back in 2011.

If anyone comes across it in Toronto, send us your photos with the installation

Plastic Classics

British artist Jane Perkins puts a modern spin on old masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci, Van Gogh and Claude Monet's work. Perkins uses everyday objects like buttons, plastic figures, toys to recreate these famous paintings in a tangible and creative way. Here are my favorites from the Plastic Classics collection.
