It's good to be back and busy! And thank you for the emails, it was a wonderful trip, so sorry haven't got around to reply to all.
Check out what photographer Mareen Fischinger puts together. She takes hundreds of pictures of one scene all from the same perspective and then puzzles them in semi-transparent layers to create the entire image. She calls it panography. I remember seeing the same exercise done by a student in the Fine Art department at the American University in Dubai, it was one of those compositions which you can look at for hours.
